Vij5 during Dutch Design Week 2019

During Dutch Design Week we provided insight into how and why we work together with designers, producers and suppliers with our exhibition ‘We’re open!’ in our own studio, showroom and workshop at Hallenweg. You could literally ask us anything! With this openness, we connect to a new trend where transparency in the chain is taken for granted.

During the exhibition we created a large map of the Netherlands on the wall where all partners with whom we cooperate were placed and named. This immediately made it clear that a large part of our activities take place in the Netherlands or even in the Eindhoven region.

Our aim was to give visitors more insight into the choices made before a product is offered for sale and which people were involved in the process. In this way you as a customer can base your personal decisions on this information making you a more conscious consumer

The story we told acted as a precursor to a new language that we are developing and which will also become visible on our website and in our communication in the future.

The title ‘We’re open!’ also applied to our renewed showroom that has undergone a true metamorphosis. The biggest difference is the fact that the showroom is now located at the front of our building and is accessible and visible through a new glass facade. We are very happy with the end result!

During Dutch Design Week we also presented a new product in the Vij5 collection: the Tempered Steel Panels, designed by Max Lipsey.

The Tempered Steel Panels have been very ‘unscientifically’ tempered to make pretty colours! Folded steel sheets form an uninterrupted expanse that really displays the beauty of this material. The colour palette varies per piece and comes from the steel itself making each panel unique.

On their own, the boards are attractive as decorative panels or wall cladding. By including a set of magnets they also become handy, magnetic memo boards for displaying pictures, notes, and to-do lists. The boards are finished with a smooth satin finish lacquer that can be written on with a chalk marker.

Bulthaup is known for its kitchen systems; timeless designs that are not subject to fashion and the spirit of time. During Dutch Design Week 2019, bulthaup opened itself up to people and brands that are stimulated by what they do, create or find. Their goal: to make new connections.

Bulthaup designs to bring people together and they believe that the kitchen table is the perfect place for that. With their table guests they spoke about innovation, sustainability, burn-outs, the responsibility of brands, timeless design vs. fashion, new traditions and more.

Together with Charlotte Landsheer from Cor Unum, Arjan was one of the table guests with the theme: International Designers and Local Production. The conversation (in Dutch) has been recorded as a podcast and can be found online.
