To create a product one needs a concrete production method, which includes two ingredients: a material and a technique. Without a material there’s nothing to put into fabrication. And without a technique a material solely remains a material. There mainly are traditional combinations between a particular material and a technical method, for instance the sawing of wood and the welding of metal.
Jeroen Wand is looking for new combinations between materials and techniques, whilst creating interventions within traditional means of production. By working from the origin of a product, new designs -which show their source and intention- are possible. Therefore, my products are the result of experiments where form and function are determined by their specific fabrication.
